Schizophrenics' size estimations of thematic stimuli.

چکیده
Relationships between premorbid adjustment, schizophrenia subtype, stimulus content, and size judgments of thematic stimuli were found to be substantially dependent on the seqeunces in which stimuli were presented. Individual differences in schizophrenics' size estimations were not simply related to premorbid adjustment, schizophrenic subtype, or to two common measures of chronicity—length of illness and length of hospitalization—while proportion of time hospitalized since first admission, interacting with schizophrenia subtype, was correlated with size judgments.

Size estimation in schizophrenics as a function of stimulus-presentation time.
15 good premorbid paranoid acute schizophrenics, IS poor premorbid nonparanoid acute schizophrenics, and IS attendants, all males, estimated stimulus size after receiving (a) 10-sec. and (b) 100-msec. presentations of the standard, also (c) 10-msec. blank flashes instead of the standard. Choices were then made from a group of variable-sized stimuli. As expected, good paranoids, normals, and poo...
متن کاملAre there two kinds of thinking in process and reactive schizophrenics?
A tentative formulation suggesting qualitative differences between process and reactive schizophrenics is presented. The cognitive deficit of reactive schizophrenics is seen as due to fragmentation of relatively normal thinking under stress or during acute disturbance (i.e., on admission). The fragmentation is suggested to result from interference due to excessive responsiveness to external sti...

We administered all paired comparisons of eight gambling stimuli to samples of inpatient schizophrenics, outpatient schizophrenics, and a comparison group of first-degree relatives. A matrix of pairwise preferences was elicited from each subject, and decomposed into a binary matrix indicating stimulus choice, and an unsigned dissimilarity matrix representing strength of preference. These matric...
متن کاملCauses of taxonomic sorting by adults: a test of the thematic-to-taxonomic shift.
The tendency among adults to sort items into taxonomic and thematic categories was examined in two experiments. Past demonstrations of adults' preference for taxonomic categories have usually not used stimuli with a salient thematic organization. The stimuli in Experiment 1 could be divided into three equal-size categories either thematically or taxonomically. Under two sets of instructions, th...
متن کاملSEX-ROLE ALIENATION IN SCHIZOPHRENIA* DAVID c. MCCLELLAND AND NORMAN
Sex-typed reactions are contrasted in male and female normals and chronic schizophrenics. In general, the schizophrenics show sex-role alienation on tests which contain a self-image reference (a Role Playing Test, a Body Parts Acceptance Test, and a Figure Preference Test), Female schizophrenics tend to react in a more assertive manner like normal males, and male schizophrenics in a more sensit...
